An Akasa Air flight from Mumbai failed to land at the Ahmedabad airport on two attempts and was diverted to Jaipur for refuelling, before returning to the city in Gujarat. The third attempt was successful and a safe landing was achieved at 1.30 pm Tuesday.
Akasa Air flight QP 1781 took off from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Internal Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai at 9 am and was scheduled to land at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (SVPIA) in Ahmedabad at 10 am.

Sources said when the flight came in for landing, windy conditions led to an “unstable approach”, prompting the pilot to abandon the attempt and was asked to “go around”. The flight circled the airport for about 15-20 minutes as other scheduled flights were on approach at the airport, sources said, adding that the subsequent attempt at landing the Boeing 737 Max 8 passenger aircraft also ended in failure, leading the pilot to divert it to Jaipur.

The aircraft was refuelled at Jaipur airport, after which it returned to Ahmedabad and landed safely at about 1:30 pm.

“As it came to landing, the rear wheels of the airplane touched down on the runway at a speed that felt higher than usual, and then immediately pulled up,” said Ashish Doshi, a frequent flier for business purposes. “As standard procedure, the flight took a turn to try again. No announcement was made, causing panic. A similar failed attempt at landing was then repeated,” he said. Doshi noted panic and fear among the passengers.

A spokesperson for Akasa Air said, “Akasa Air flight QP 1781, operating from Mumbai to Ahmedabad on January 13, 2026, discontinued its approach into Ahmedabad as the landing did not meet Akasa Air prescribed safety standards. The operating crew accordingly took a decision to divert the flight to Jaipur as per our standard operating procedures. The aircraft later departed Jaipur and landed safely in Ahmedabad at 13.47 hours today.”
