NEW DELHI: Mata Amritanandamayi Math has declared flood relief to the tune of Rs 50 crore for Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. This was announced at a press briefing held at Bangalore by Abhayamrita Chaithanya,pro-chancellor of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. A team of brahmacharis and devotees will carry out the relief work which will involve distributing foodgrains,blankets,bed sheets,etc,among the flood-hit. A rehabilitation plan for the people displaced by the floods is also on the cards.

AMU shut after students killing

NEW DELHI: Aligarh Muslim University AMU and all its institutions have been closed with immediate effect until further notice in view of the increasing violence and breach of peace,said a university statement on Friday. Like 2007,this time,too,the incidents have been triggered by a students murder outside the campus.

AMU Vice-Chancellor Prof P K Abdul Azis has appealed to the students to vacate their hostels within 48 hours and leave for their hometowns. While the students have been on a dharna over the murder of a student on October 25,things worsened on Thursday night with some of the protesters falling ill and refusing medical help.

Pak boat seized near Sir Creek

AHMEDABAD: A Pakistani boat,which had intruded into Indian waters near Sir Creek area of Kutch,was seized by the BSF on Friday even as its occupants managed to escape. During patrolling,a BSF team spotted a boat about 1.5 km from Sir Creek area. On seeing the BSF team,the occupants of the boat dived into sea, BSF officials said. The fishing boat has since been brought to the Kutch coast,they added. PTI
