Orissa HC orders separate wards for dengue patients

BHUBANESWAR: Concerned over the spread of dengue in the state,the Orissa High Court on Friday asked the State Government to open a separate dengue ward at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack and initiate blood sampling in 21 dengue affected districts. The government was asked to submit a detailed report on the measures undertaken for control of dengue in next 6 days. So far 17 patients in the state have already succumbed,with 407 patients undergoing treatment.

UP: Girl kills two Dalits in land dispute

LUCKNOW: Fearful of being attacked over a land dispute by a group of Dalits,a teenaged girl shot dead two of them in Salempur police station area of Deoria district on Friday. The girl was arrested and the licenced single-barrel gun seized. Srivastavas daughter Goldy 18 and two family members got into an argument with the opposing group,which started throwing stones. The girl panicked and fired twice from her fathers gun,killing Gulab 55 and Khaddan 25 on the spot. Police were deployed in the village to monitor the situation.

Sahitya Akademi award for childrens book to a Kashmiri

SRINAGAR: Noted Kashmiri writer and poet Gulam Nabi Aatish8217;s book 8216;Nov Kehtsha Mentsha8217; received the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award in the best children8217;s literature category. The award will be conferred at Kolkata on Children8217;s Day,Kashmiri Advisory Board convener Aziz Hajni said. It comprises a cash prize of Rs 51,000,a citation and a robe of honour.

Cop shoots self outside Prafulla Mahantas house

GUWAHATI: A havildar of the Assam Police,deployed as a PSO,committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon outside the official residence of former Assam chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta here on Friday. Kamrup Metro SSP Deepak Chaudhury said havildar Dipak Saikia used his 9mm pistol and shot himself.
