Banda: CBI case against BSP MLA

The incident was reported in December last year after which Dwivedi was suspended by the UP government.

Nine months after a minor Dalit girl was allegedly raped by a BSP MLA in Banda in Uttar Pradesh,the CBI on the directions of the Supreme Court registered a case against MLA Purushottam Dwivedi and four others on Thursday. The incident was reported in December last year after which Dwivedi was suspended by the UP government.

The Supreme Court on September 12 had directed the CBI to take over the probe into the case as allegations were levelled that Dwivedi used his influence to dilute the probe.

CBI spokesperson Dharini Mishra said,On the directions of Supreme Court,the CBI has registered a case against a Uttar Pradesh MLA and four other persons under sections 376,354,323,504 and 506 of the IPC relating to a case in Banda UP in which a minor was allegedly raped.
