It’s Christmas morning and the city seems to slow down just a little. There’s less urgency to rush through meals, more reason to linger at the table. Increasingly, it is brunch — not dinner — that has become the preferred way to celebrate the day, offering a relaxed, social setting where food, conversation and time stretch comfortably into the afternoon.
Pune’s restaurants are responding to this shift with Christmas brunches that blend tradition with easy celebration. Festive indulgence is paired with live music, cocktails and menus designed for sharing, as diners across the city raise a toast to the last week of the year in spaces that prioritise warmth over spectacle.
At Doolally, Christmas is rooted firmly in tradition. Its Christmas Brunch – A Taste of Tradition, hosted on December 25 across its Koregaon Park taproom, draws from Anglo-Indian, Goan, East Indian and Mangalorean culinary legacies. “At Doolally, Christmas food has always been about preserving flavours from home kitchens and community tables,” says Yukti Aware, Community Manager at Doolally.
The menu features festive staples such as roast chicken with stuffing, smoked leg ham and pork vindaloo, alongside deeply traditional preparations like Goan cafreal chicken and mutton xacuti. “Our cafreal and xacuti recipes are intentionally orthodox — bold, unapologetic and rooted in tradition,” Aware adds. Desserts continue the nostalgic note with Christmas pudding and kuswar sweets sourced from Mumbai’s old Catholic neighbourhoods. Beverages include fresh eggnog, hot mulled wine and 12 brews and ciders on tap. “It’s meant to be unhurried and social,” says Aware. “A brunch where conversations last as long as the food.”
At Cobbler & Crew, Christmas takes on a more contemporary, music-led mood. Its X-Mas Brunch on December 25 places festive cocktails, shared plates and live music at the centre of the afternoon. “Christmas, for us, is about slowing down and spending time at the table with friends,” says a spokesperson. Live performances by Sunny Side Up — blending rock, funk and pop — turn brunch into a laid-back celebration that stretches well into the day.
For families and larger gatherings, Courtyard by Marriott, Hinjewadi, is hosting a festive brunch at MoMo Café focused on classic holiday flavours and generous spreads. “Christmas is one of those occasions where food becomes the centre of togetherness,” says a hotel representative. Live counters, festive roasts and an elaborate dessert selection anchor the experience, catering to groups that prefer variety and familiarity.
A similarly expansive celebration unfolds at E-Square The Fern, where the Christmas brunch leans into abundance, offering Indian, Western and Pan-Asian cuisines alongside festive desserts. “Guests come to spend time, not rush through plates,” says manager at The Fern.
Little Italy is also celebrating the season with a specially curated Christmas dine-in meal that brings together warmth, indulgence and the joy of shared tables. Available from December 25 to January 4 for both lunch and dinner, the festive offering includes a comforting appetiser, a choice of Little Italy’s signature pizzas and hearty pastas, a Red Velvet Christmas Tree Cake for dessert, and beverages for two, with options ranging from non-alcoholic gin, whisky and rum to mocktails. Optional red wine is also included, adding a celebratory touch to the meal.
“Christmas, for us, is about slowing down and celebrating togetherness over good food,” says a manager from Little Italy. “This menu is designed to feel generous, familiar and joyful — just the way the season should be.” The Christmas meal is available for dine-in only.
For those seeking a quieter, more contemporary celebration, Kyma at Kopa Mall opts for a winter-themed Christmas specials menu instead of a traditional buffet. “We wanted something festive yet relaxed — a place where people can celebrate without formality,” says a Kyma manager.
In Pune, Christmas brunch is no longer about grandeur. It’s about shared tables, familiar flavours and unhurried hours — a celebration where good food quietly takes centre stage.
