Polling having ended,the Election Commission has directed the UP Chief Secretary to remove the covers on the statues of Chief Minister Mayawati and elephants across the state. These statues had been ordered covered on January 8.
100 per cent in Goa booth
Panaji: Goa witnessed a huge turnout for the Assembly elections on Saturday with a record 81 per cent voters exercising their franchise,Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi said. The previous highest voting 70.51 per cent in the state was in 2007. A booth in Dovorlim locality near Margao reported 100 per cent voting by 3.30 pm,90 minutes before the close of polling. Two booths,one in Poriem and another in Sankhalim constituency,had recorded 95 per cent voting by 4 pm.
LJPs Salon candidate dead
AMETHI: Lok Janshakti Party candidate Kamaleshwar Nath from Salon Reserved Assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh died on Friday night following heart failure. Sub-Divisional Magistrate SDM Ashok Kumar Srivastava said Nath had been unwell for the last few days. Nath was fielded by Ram Vilas Paswan-led LJP from Salon and polling was held on February 19.
Poll official dies of heart attack
BIJNOR: Polling Officer Ram Singh Chauhan posted in Jhalu area here after he suffered a cardiac arrest at his poll booth on Friday,officials said here.
