VMC chief pulls up engineers for overlooking basic precautions

The Vadodara municipal commissioner pulled up the senior engineers at a meeting on Friday for ignoring the basic guidelines resulting into fatal accidents. The meeting was convened in the wake of the death of a youth due to drainage pipes kept haphazardly by the contractors near Harni. With the pipeline laying and storm water drainage work going on in different parts of the city, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation VMC engineers have been asked to avoid causing any inconvenience to the commuters and complete the work within the stipulated time. Municipal commissioner M K Das has asked the officials to keep the traffic movement in mind. 8220;Specific instructions have been given to all the engineers to put proper signage at the places where the digging and pipeline laying work is going on,8221; Das said, adding that the engineers were asked to personally verify whether the contractors had put proper signage at the site. It was late on Thursday night when one Nirav Maniya died after he rammed into a storm water drainage pipe kept on the road. He died at the SSG Hospital. A complaint has been lodged with the Karelibag police station by one Romil Sheth against the VMC contractor.
