AMETHI (UP), SEPT 10: Congress president Sonia Gandhi filed her nomination on Friday for this Lok Sabha constituency and shrugged off attack on her foreign origin saying she was not worried ``a bit.''Returning as `bahu rani' (daughter-in-law) to Amethi, once nursed by husband Rajiv Gandhi, the Congress president filed four sets of nomination papers and asserted, ``I am confident of my victory. The Amethi people have always stood by my family.''Asked by reporters, after 52-year-old Gandhi filed her papers before the returning officer of Sultanpur whether she was worried about her foreign origin being made a big election issue, she shot back, ``Not a bit. Not at all.''She took the oath in English and was helped in signing the papers by her son Rahul.Gandhi drove from Fursatganj to Sultanpur but the filing of nomination was delayed by an hour as massive crowds greeted and showered her with rose petals at every traffic junction.Congress supporters shouted slogans and waved posters of Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi as also her own.Gandhi, who has also contested the Lok Sabha poll from Bellary in Karnataka, said her party `will put up a very good candidate' against Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee in Lucknow. She, however, evaded reply to a question whether former Union minister Karan Singh would be pitted against Vajpayee. When a reporter told her that the BJP, which has fielded Sanjay Singh, is seeking to project the contest as one between a local and an outsider, Gandhi said, ``Voters will decide who is an outsider.''She left nobody in doubt that she would be highlighting development of the area during Rajiv Gandhi's time by saying the main issue would be local problems and progress of the area.
