Padmashree K J Yesudas is undoubtedly the man with a golden voice. Having sung in more than twenty-two languages, he plans to cut the first album in devotional songs. His quest to learn classical music continues. Simplicity and true dedication to music is what he stands for.

In the city, performing at the Ganesh Krida Manch, after a gap of fifteen years, Yesudas regaled the audience. The programme was organised by St. Peter8217;s Mar Thoma Syrian Church for their project Shejari8217; which aims to address the needs of children, women and the uprooted.

The singer, speaks on his absence from the Hindi film music and his future plans.

  • The reasons for performing in Pune after a long gap8230; I believe that everything has a right time and place. So, when I got the invitation from the organisers, I consented. I have done shows in Mumbai, but I guess this was the right time to visit Pune.
  • On why he does not playback any more for Hindi film songs. Dane dane per likha hai khane wala ka naam, gaane gaane per likha hai ganewala ka naam. One gets what one is destined for . So, if any song has to be sung by me I will sing it.
  • On where he sees himself in the present music scenario.
  • I am just a drop in the big ocean of music. One should not be satisfied with all the accolades. In fact, he should only keep trying harder to learn more. If one were to be satisfied he would stop trying to improving himself.

  • Will he follow the trend and mix classical with pop music? No, I would never do that. Each style has it8217;s own purity and mixing two styles would only lead to losing the serenity of that particular style.
  • On his future plans. I live in Chennai and am training in classical music. I will keep learning till the end of my life. If any good project comes up, I will consider it.
  • On the Pune audience. Puneites are a very receptive audience and I liked performing in here.
