The train has already begun moving, but instead of pulling away, it slows down and comes to a halt
Mumbai is known for its relentless pace, where trains move with clockwork precision and commuters rarely pause. But every now and then, the city surprises you by slowing down at exactly the right moment.
A short video filmed at a Mumbai local train station is now being widely shared for capturing one such pause. Posted on Instagram by Om Tripathi, the clip shows an elderly woman walking carefully with the support of a stick, trying her best to reach a departing train. The train has already begun moving, but instead of pulling away, it slows down and comes to a halt. The driver waits, giving her the time she needs to board safely.
What could have passed as just another rushed commute turns into a small yet powerful reminder of empathy in a city always on the move.
The caption on the video struck a chord with viewers. “Humanity still exists,” it reads in Hindi, explaining how the train stopped for elderly passengers who had just arrived at the platform. It adds, “This wasn’t just a train that stopped, but proof that compassion is still alive.”

One user commented, “This is the most common thing in Mumbai.. Huge respect to Pilots.” Another shared a personal memory: “I was waiting for my last local but on a wrong platform coz of some indicator glitch when the train came, me and sis ran like hell from one platform to another and then there were two policemen who stopped the train coz we were running on heels damn I would never forget that night.”
Others echoed similar sentiments. “That’s respect for elders, the driver and the train have nothing to lose just for stopping 2 more seconds,” wrote one person. Another added, “Same thing happened with me, I was running to catch the AC train, and the driver saw me. So he kept the doors open.”
