
A security guard of a private company and a driver were arrested for stealing construction material worth Rs 80,000 from the site of an under-construction five-star hotel in Sector 35-B on Sunday.
The arrested were identified as Raj Kumar security guard and Jaspal Singh driver. While Jaspal is a resident of Kharar, Raj Kumar is a resident of Ram Darbar.
Three others 8212; Banarasi Dass, Udesh, security guards and Satpal Singh driver 8212; are absconding, said police.
All the accused were employed with Paramount Security, Manpower and Allied Services, which has its office in Sector 35.
Santosh Kumar, the construction supervisor, paid a surprise visit to the site early on Sunday morning. He caught the security guards red-handed loading construction material into a mini-truck PB-65-A-5498. He immediately informed the police.
Station House Officer of the Sector-36 police station, Anokh Singh, said: 8220;Raj Kumar and Jaspal Singh were employed with the company for over a year.8221;
The truck used in the theft has been impounded and seven girders, five channels, some plates and iron rods have been recovered.
A case under Sections 379, 411 and 34 of the IPC has been registered by the police on a complaint lodged by Santosh Kumar.
