MUMBAI, JUNE 11: Salvation Parish, Dadar, defeated Maharashtra Labour Welfare Board (MLWB), Naigaum, 3-1 in Pool B of the MDFA Third Division football league at the St Xavier’s ground, Parel, today.

Salvation, a team comprising school and college boys and managed by Fr Cajetan, played a fast game with accurate passing and good team work against the hardworking Naigaum boys.

It was MLWB who stunned their opponents with a goal in the very fifth minute. Ravi Kamble scored with a free-kick which caught Salvation goalkeeper Angleus Pereira on the wrong foot.

But MLWB’s joy was short-lived when Salvation equalised through Adrian Mascarenhas who scored from close range after Allan Fernandes had crossed into the goalmouth in the 12th minute.

In the second session, the MLWB forwards were guilty of squandering chances, while their goalkeeper Sunil Dedhia brought off a good save following a try by Allan.

Roland Lobo put Salvation ahead in the 34th minute when he shot home following a corner taken by Saby Alphonso. Another Saby corner saw Hycliff D’Abreo make it 3-1.

Aurelius D’Souza of Salvation and Ravi Kamble of MLWB, both of whom were shown two yellow cards each, were given the marching orders.
