SURAT, Jan 18: The state government has sanctioned Rs 446 lakhs for the development of Dangs as a part of its tribal development programme, according to an official statement issued here on Monday.

Dangs district tribal mandal at its meeting on Sunday chalked out development plans to be implemented in the district. The meeting, presided over by Dangs District In-charge Minister Mangu Patel finalised projects worth Rs 357 lakhs. District Collector J P Gupta, District Development Officer D J Dharayia and Deputy Conservator of Forest Mukesh Kumar attended the meeting.

While the Mandal8217;s recommendations have been sent to the state government for approval, the plan chalked out is in accordance with the government8217;s resolve to accord priority to development of tribal areas and involve maximum number of tribals in the development process.

Speaking on the occasion, Patel, who is also Tribal Development Minister, said new pipelines will be laid in Ahwa to supply water from Kelwa Bhisia dam at an estimated cost of Rs 45 lakh. Among other works that will be taken up include repair of five roads and two national highways at a cost Rs 95.5 lakh. The State government has earmarked Rs 80 lakh for building eight new check dams at an estimated cost of Rs 28.5 lakh, besides providing generator sets to nine village schools.

Also, Rs 55 lakh have allocated for setting up primary health centres, mobile dispensaries and constructing primary school buildings. Besides, Rs 50 lakh has been earmarked for development and conservation of forests, Rs 8 lakh for construction of a Bhavan for cultural activities, Rs 25 lakh for bridges and roads, Rs 10 lakh for water reservoir, Rs 6 lakh for veterinary hospital, and Rs 15 lakh for mobile dispensaries.
