Spirited style

Come Thursday, and jet-setters of the glam world will be treated to a magical, momentous occasion. The Indian Express, in association with The Oberoi Hotels, Mumbai, will play host to WAVES 8212; an exclusive evening of coastal cuisine and couture. While Karan Grover8217;s creative genius will result in the hotel lobby being transformed into a picturesque coastline to recreate the ambience of the sea in all its splendour, Mumbai8217;s style gurus will wait with bated breath as they watch ace designer Wendell Rodricks.

Rodricks8217; creations have been inspired by the roar of the ocean, the waves lapping upon the seashore, the ocean breeze swaying the coconut palms, the sands of time8230; Super models Madhu Sapre and Fleur Xavier will sashay down the ramp with Walusha De Souza and Anika Madgaocar all flaunting designer wear in cool hues of cobalt blue, emerald green, sandy white and aquamarine.

Chefs will stir up coastal delicacies in the Regal Room to make guests8217; taste buds do a foxtrot. The sponsors for the evening are Garden, Ghanasingh amp; Sons Jewellers and Sahara Airlines. Be there for the event of the millennium.Male storm

With the city celebrating the Ganpati festival, the social scene was quite dull this week. But with the fashion season in full swing there were a couple of shows over the weekend, which meant that Mumbai8217;s amiable animals did get a reason to party. Marc Robinson put together a Levi8217;s event with the Bangalore style guru, Prasad Bidappa, at Crossroads to launch the brand8217;s latest range of loose-fit clothing.

It was a show that really made your temperature rise, as not only was the atrium of the Crossroads overcrowded with teenagers trying to catch a glimpse, there were some seriously good-looking men in the audience too. Spotted were Kelly Dorji and Dino Morea cheering on the others on the ramp, like Tarun Raghavan and John Abraham. John by the way is the official Levi8217;s face and stars in their new ad-film. And judging by the way the women screamed when hewalked wearing nothing but a pair of Levi8217;s, he really is going to be a good mascot for the company.

But the trouble was that with so many hunks around most of the women forgot to look at the clothes which included cargo pants, denim tunics and some other comfortable clothes for weekend wear. And the man you could not give a miss was Marc Robinson who besides being the emcee and the show8217;s choreographer, was also the deejay for the night, playing lots of loud music to get everyone into the mood. By the end of it, Marc had greeted all his guests and attended to all his female fans.

Evita8217;s night

On Saturday night, Alyque Padamsee and his Evita cast held a special preview of their production for friends and family. The play opened to the public the next day, with tickets being sold out days in advance. Attending this performance were a motley mix of some of the city8217;s media crowd like Anish and Vineeta Trevedi, Dipika Roy and Prahlad Kakkar. Though the initial reports about the play were of theproduction values being weak, with things settling down Evita may be a huge hit this time again.

What a bash

Dharmendra and his sons don8217;t exactly have a reputation for being active on the city8217;s party circuit. But when the Deol clan threw a bash to release the music of their home production Dillagi at the Taj ballroom and Crystal Room on Wednesday, they pulled all stops to make the do an affair to remember for a long time. By far the best filmi party of the year, as many as 500 guests were in attendance most of them affiliated to the film industry, but also a few faces from the fashion world. The entire room was done up tastefully with blue and green balloons and innumerable candles on stands.

Sunny Deol, who has turned director with this film, personally moved around to make sure that guests were at ease this, from a man who8217;s so shy, it8217;s difficult to speak to him. Brother Bobby was there with wife Tanya in tow, while papa Dharam proudly displayed the first CD of the film8217;s audio trackcomposed by Jatin-Lalit and Shankar, Loy and Ehsaan. In his characteristic style, Dharmendra stuck charming poses for the camera and asked everyone to join forces to make his son8217;s venture a success. The only person conspicuous by her absence was the film8217;s leading lady Urmila Matondkar, who was apparently shooting abroad.

Watch it!

On Sunday, the Taj8217;s Crystal Room was packed with the city8217;s glitterati from Raja and Queenie Dhody to Zarine Khan and her daughters, everyone had come to see the Christian Dior show. Choreographed by Sharmila Khanna, though the show was to launch CD8217;s watches and writing instruments, most had come to see Dior8217;s dress line on display for the first time in Mumbai.

Designed by British designer John Galliano, who now heads the CD design team, the line was really a class apart. From simple stylish knits to long sleek black evening dresses, most of the designs seemed to impress the audience, even though it was along wait before the show started.. But, unfortunately, thedesigns are not available in India yet.

The show was well put together and Sharmila paid attention to all the finer details, making sure each model wore the right shoes. A special mention must go to the stylist, Vipul Bhagat, whose bold eye make-up fitted perfectly with the image of the house of Christian Dior. On the ramp were Helen Brodie, Madhu Sapre, Dino Morea, and Malaika Aurora.

Sporty Suits

It was quite a hectic night at the Taj, as just next door to the CD show, J. Hampstead Suiting was hosting a dinner for their brand ambassadors Mahesh Bhupati and Leander Paes. It was a sit-down affair, elegantly decorated by Allure8217;s Gurleene Manchanda who had placed some of Dimple Kapadia8217;s candles in the centre of each table. Performing some very loud music was Louis Banks. And some of the guests from the CD show Madhu Sapre, Tarun Raghavan and Rinke Khanna who has lost an amazing amount of weight simply walked down the corridor to other guests, including Harsh Goenka and Anupama Verma, fordinner.

And finally8230;

In queue this fashion season there8217;s the JJ Valya show next month and Shahab Durazi8217;s. Also getting into the act is Poonam Soni, the jewellery designer, who will be launching her second store in the city next month!
