In a country where the common man blames the government for all its ails and refuses to help himself or his neighbour forget the needy, it is heartening to see citizens of Pune who are committed to serving the society and working for the welfare of humanity.
Rescue8217; is a social organisation formed by individuals from different social and professional backgrounds. Founder members are quick to specify that Rescue is a 8220;social, non-political and non-governmental8221; organisation. These individuals believe that it is not possible for the government to do everything. As citizens each one of us has a social responsibility, to focus on the problems relating to human life and help according to our ability.
They have several projects in mind. To begin with, this month they launched an ambulance service for the perilous Mumbai-Pune Highway. Donated by the Jaswantrai Bhoruka Charitable Trust, the ambulance will run between Dapodi and Kamshet and has tied-up with four hospitals on the route. It will be manned by a doctor and trained personnel. Accident victims can now be assured of immediate assistance to be provided absolutely free of cost.
They also plan a Helpline8217; service to assist people in emotional and mental distress. With assistance from Ask Me this service will have a panel of doctors, psychiatrists, psychotherapists and social workers round the clock extending their services towards this cause.
Rescue plans to identify problems faced by people and tackle them. Schemes in the offing include: literacy, village development, free medical aid, helping the unemployed who have lost their jobs due to accidents and help to the physically handicapped.
The founding members of Rescue are all employed people who have set aside time for a social cause. The story of its birth is quite interesting. An advertisement was placed in the papers calling like-minded people upholding high values and lofty aims to unite for a common cause of helping the upliftment of humanity. Surprisingly there was a good response to this. The members do not focus on themselves but on their cause which they hold very dear to their heart.
The organisation does not, as yet, have an official address of its own. Rescue would like the cooperation of the citizens of Pune. Many doctors, professionals and organisations related to the field of health have already volunteered their services to the cause. A social organisation always welcomes help, especially financial help.
