KOPARGAON, JAN 3: The cash box at the Shirdi Sansthan district literally kept ringing last year, with devotees depositing gupt daan secret donation of Rs 13.47 crore in cash, the highest donation in a single year in the Sansthan8217;s history.

Gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 28.67 lakh were also deposited in box during last year, according to the executive officer of the Sansthan, Ajit Pawar. Pawar said about two crore pilgrims from all over the country, of them 60 per cent from Andhra Pradesh alone, visited Shirdi last year.

The Sansthan has urged Maharashtra government to allot it 300 acre land, belonging to the state government8217;s farming corporation, for Sansthan8217;s developmental works, Pawar said.

8220;We have already purchased Rs 1.5 crore worth land for developmental works and constructed a new dharamshala on which we have so far spent Rs four crore,8221; he said.

The Sansthan was also planning to expand its Sainath Hospital with a capacity of 500 beds and modern equipment at a cost ofrs 50 crore, Pawar said.

The Sansthan had so far donated Rs 1.13 crore in the form of grants to needy patients who underwent major surgeries, he added.

The expansion work of Sai Baba temple, costing about Rs eight crore, was underway, Pawar said, adding that about 50 percent of the work was over and the remaining would be completed by march this year.
