Rajput gets bail

According to the prosecution, PETN explosive, to be smuggled into the jail complex, was recovered from Satnam Singh8217;s possession. More explosive was recovered from his residence at Salimpur village, in Ropar district.

The explosive, the prosecution had added, was to be employed for blowing up a portion of the jail complex for enabling former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh8217;s alleged assassins, Jagtar Singh Tara and Jagtar Singh Hawara to escape.

The petitioner had also been booked by the Chandigarh Police. He, along with human rights activist Jaspal Singh Dhillon and nine others, had subsequently been charged by the UT Additional District and Sessions Judge with 8220;unlawfully8221; and 8220;maliciously8221; conspiring to cause an explosion at the Burail Jail.

Claiming to have been implicated in the case, Rajput, in his bail plea, had stated that police personnel in Punjab had been annoyed with him as he had been filing cases against them in the court.
