Diwali with glitter
Diwali, the Festival of Lights, was celebrated throughout the city with traditional fervour and gaiety. People exchanged greetings and burst crackers on main thoroughfares and street corners throughout the day. Lakshmipuja was performed with traditional reverence.

Despite rain during the past few days, people had managed to venture out to buy new clothes, firecrackers and sweets. Brisk sales were registered at sweet shops despite high prices. In the morning, people went to temples after the customary abhyangsnan. Traders performed puja either early in the morning or in the evening.

3 dead in mishap
Solapur: Three persons died on the spot while six others were injured in a road mishap at Modnimb village on Pune-Solapur road early on Monday morning. The Tempo Trax they were travelling by dashed against a tree. The jeep was on its way to Solapur when the driver lost control.
