The shot, which originally had building works, has been replaced by a map of Greenland with a caption, saying “Monitoring the situation.” (Photo: Instagram/ whitehouse) Denmark’s foreign minister on Tuesday said that US Vice President JD Vance is scheduled to host a meeting with him and his counterparts from Greenland this week as White House posted an edited pic of US President Donald Trump staring at the map of Greenland from a window.
The photo, posted on the official social media account of White House on Monday, appeared to be an edited version of a picture where the US president was originally looking at the construction site of his future ballroom. The shot, which originally had building works, has been replaced by a map of Greenland with a caption, saying “Monitoring the situation.”
The image appeared to be trolling the European Union, which has extended its support to Greenland as tensions spiraled over the Trump administration’s desire for control of the island.
The post came at a time when Trump earlier announced that the US is poised to take over the control of the territory one way or another”, and that if the US does not, Russia or China will.
Greenland, which is a vast Arctic island, is a semiautonomous territory of Denmark which is a NATO ally.
Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and his counterpart from Greenland, Vivian Motzfeldt are expected to meet US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday, though there has been no official confirmation of the same.
The US president has said that he intends to make a deal with Greenland which would be “easier” rather than deploying the military to take control of the Arctic territory. Meanwhile, Trump has also cleared the air on NATO’s dilemma and said the takeover would happen, whether or not it posed risk to the military alliance.
“If it affects NATO, then it affects NATO. But, you know, they need us much more than we need them, I will tell you that right now,” the Republican leader told reporters aboard Air Force One on Monday.
