India Open Super 750: Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty get walkover; PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy, Kidambi Srikanth in action tomorrow

The walkover would mean that the Indian duo gets an extra rest day and will be in action on Thursday where they will face Chia Weije-Lwi Sheng Hao of Malaysia or Hiroki Midorikawa- Kyohei Yamashita of Japan who will be playing tomorrow.

World number three men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty got an walkover in the first round of the India Open Super 750 tournament on Tuesday.

The duo was supposed to face world number 31 Presley Smith and Chen Zi Yi.

The walkover would mean that the Indian duo gets an extra rest day and will be in action on Thursday where they will face Chia Weije-Lwi Sheng Hao of Malaysia or Hiroki Midorikawa- Kyohei Yamashita of Japan who will be playing tomorrow.

The third-seeded duo won the India Open in 2022 which was played behind the closed doors and most recently reached the quarter-finals of the Malaysia Open Super 1000 event last week.

Another Indian men’s doubles pair of Arjun MR and Hariharan Amsakarunan upset higher ranked Malaysian pair of Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi in straight games 21-15, 21-18.

Sindhu, Prannoy in action

Tomorrow will be a busy day for Indian contingent as the shuttlers will be involved in 12 games.

Double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu will start her campaign against Thuy Linh Nguyen of Vietnam. She had a good run at the Malaysia Open Super 1000 last week where she reached the semi-finals.

“Irrespective of whatever the draw is, my performance at the Malaysia Open gives me a lot of confidence. I am going to give my 100 percent in front of the home fans,” Sindhu had said earlier the press conference of the tournament.

Apart from Sindhu, veterans Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy will in action in the men’s singles.

Srikanth will be up against Indian youngster Tharun Mannepalli while Pranny will face world number 18 Lee Cheuk Yiu of Hong Kong.

Among other Indians, Malvika Bansod, Tanvi Sharma, Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto will be in action.

Where to watch India Open Super 750?

The tournament will be live streamed on the Badminton Association of India YouTube channel and broadcasted on Eurovision channel.
