BHILAI, May 21: ALL the units of public sector indian cement corporation have been declared sick.
Madhya Pradesh cement works federation president Robin Dutta said here that the corporation was incurring losses for the past four years. He said the corporation8217;s losses had swelled from Rs 432 crore in 1994-95 to more than Rs 800 crore in 1995-96.

Dutta pointed out various reasons why the seven cement units of the corporation were running in losses.
He said while the corporation8217;s cement factory situated atCharki Dadri, which it had purchased from the private sector, could not run due to paucity of raw materials. Its Mandar cement factory at Raipur had failed to achieve it8217;s full capacity because of the apathy of state government towards it8217;s modernisation. Further, efforts for the modernisation of cement plant at Akaltara in Bilaspur district, did not yield desired results. He said. Moreover, the marketing division of the corporation had failed to cope up with the competition from the private sector, Dutta said.
However, the corporation8217;s sick units could be revived if financial institutions provided about Rs 200 crore and the interest amount was waived off, he said.
