SHYAMOLI VARMA AND PAINTING
I AM A PAINTER from heart and a model by default. I8217;ve been in-terested in art ever since I can remember and I believe my talent is a gift from God. In fact, even during my modelling days, it was my paint box that I would always pack first.
Though the medium of my creation ranges from oil to water and acrylic, my base is always pointilism since I enjoy intricate work. I have evolved as a painter, and over the years, I8217;ve experimented with different styles. I began with human forms, shifted to cosmic brush-abstracts and now I8217;m into collage. The journey has been more about learning than anything else. And what inspires me most is nature and its myriad colours8212;there is nothing more beautiful than that.
Every individual looks at art differently. My personal favourites are Amrita Sher-Gil and Anjolie Ela Menon. They are full of intensity. The time I spend on painting and the style I follow depend on my mood. But once I am at it, I let the thoughts flow. A self-taught artist, I got an opportunity to go to Australia for a de-gree in Fine Arts when I was in college. Back then, I couldn8217;t avail of it due to financial compulsions. However, I do intend to teach art some day.
