Glass art
Venetian or Muranese glass, with its exquisite beauty and rich historical tradition has fascinated scholars, art connoisseurs andcollectors for more than a 1,000 years. The Sacred Prism II, an exhibition presented by Gayatri Ruia, is an attempt to combine the historic tradition of Venetian glass with the imagination of the contemporary artist. The sequel to a previous collaborative effort organised by Ruia with renowned Italian artist Antonio Da Ros, and Manjit Bawa in Feb ’98, Sacred Prism II is inspired by the rich heritage of temple art and sculpture. On display are 50 exquisite blown art pieces of religious deities Shiv, Ganesh, Krishna and Jesus meticulously crafted by Antonio Da Ros and Anjolie Ela Menon. The exhibits have been specially selected by Ruia in an attempt to take religious iconography beyond its traditional confines through the medium of glass art.
