NCP will oppose Constitution amendment 8212; Pawar

Earlier, Pawar unveiled a statue of late Congress leader Kisar Veer and inaugurated an auditorium built in Veer8217;s memory.

Meanwhile, addressing a one-day convention yesterday of party workers from Vidarbha at Kondeshwar in Amravati district, 150 km from Nagpur, Pawar said that the NCP will have a distinct idealogy, definite economic programme and different political culture. He said that the NCP would be a disciplined and cadre-based party. It would adopt pragamatic and progressive economic policies in tune with the changing times and would shun pomp and populism, he added.

Maharashtra NCP president Babanrao Pachpute, Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal and five other ministers belonging to the NCP attended the convention.

Finance Minister Jayant Patil, who also spoke at the convention, criticised the mindless expenditure of the previous Shiv Sena-BJP government and said as much as 40 per cent of the revenue would go for the repayment of loans taken by the previous government and the interest accrued on the same.
