Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Election Results 2026: Polling is underway in 29 civic bodies across Maharashtra, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) elections. These are the first civic elections in Maharashtra since 2017.

Voting for all the municipal corporation elections began early at 7:30 am on Thursday amid tight security, with voters standing in long queues to cast their votes at various polling booths across the state. The polling is scheduled to conclude at 5:30 pm today.

Besides BMC, PMC, and PCMC, other participating municipal corporations witnessing elections on Thursday include Thane, Ulhasnagar, Kalyan-Dombivli, Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar), Nashik, Nagpur, Jalgaon, Ahmednagar (Ahilyanagar), Kolhapur, Bhiwandi-Nizampur, Nanded-Waghala, Malegaon, Latur, Parbhani, Navi Mumbai, Vasai-Virar City, Solapur, Amravati, Akola, Mira Bhayandar, Panvel, Chandrapur, Sangli-Mirajpur-Kupwad, Dhule, Ichalkaranji and Jalna.

When will the votes be counted?

The counting of votes will be held in a phased manner across 23 different locations throughout the city and suburbs on January 16. It will begin at 10 am on Friday.

About 64,000 civic workers have been deployed for counting of votes, an increase of 30.6 per cent from 2017, officials told The Indian Express.

In India’s richest civic body — the BMC — as many as 1,729 candidates are contesting its 227 seats. More than 20 Returning Officers (ROs) have been assigned across BMC polls, and with two constituencies being counted at a given time, it will cover all the 227 wards.

When will the results be announced?

According to the State Election Commission (SEC), the results for Municipal Corporation elections across Maharashtra will be announced on January 16.

Maharashtra civic body polls at a glance

Polls are being held for 2,869 seats spread across 893 wards of 29 civic bodies in Maharashtra, where over 3 crore 48 lakh voters will register their votes on Thursday.

Around 44,000 control units and nearly 88,000 ballot units have been arranged for the process. Nearly 2 lakh officers and employees have also been deployed on election duty.

The Maharashtra government has declared a holiday for all offices in the municipal corporation areas to facilitate voting.

Special arrangements, including wheelchair and ramps, have been made for senior citizens, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities at all polling centres across the state.

The stock markets, BSE and NSE, will also remain closed today for the Maharashtra civic elections. Trading will resume tomorrow.

Voter turnout in Maharashtra civic body polls

BMC, as of 11:30 am on Thursday, recorded 17.73 per cent voter turnout in the civic body polls.

Other civic bodies such as Navi Mumbai recorded 19.68 per cent turnout, Vasai Virar 19.34 per cent, KDMC 17.53 per cent and Thane 19 per cent.

Meanwhile, the voter turnout in PCMC elections was recorded to be 16.3 per cent as of 11:30 am, while it stood at 14.92 per cent in the PMC polls.
