One killed in wage dispute

An argument over a wage settlement resulted in the murder of a painting contractor at Juhu late last night.

Said the police, Praveen Kumar Shukla asked his partner Raju Punjabi to hire some painters from Khar railway station on Thursday afternoon. Punjabi returned with one Kalu and another unidentified person.

However, even before the work could begin, Kalu got into a heated argument with Punjabi over wages to be paid. Kalu and the other person are believed to have left the place in a fit of rage, the police added.

At around 8 pm, the duo waited for Punjabi near Wakefield Road Junction, intercepted the rickshaw in which he was travelling, dragged him into the open and stabbed him in the chest. Punjabi was rushed to Bhabha Hospital, Bandra, but was declared dead before admission. The accused are still at large.

CR locals delayed

Locals on the Central Railway were delayed by nearly an hour on Friday morning after the breakdown of an overhead electrical wireon the down local line near Sandhurst road station at 7.19 am. The fault was rectified by 10.20 am, said a spokesperson.

Holiday special for Ahmedabad

The Western Railway has arranged a holiday special bound for Ahmedabad which will leave Mumbai Central at 11 pm on saturday. Bookings can be done manually from counter number 30 at Mumbai Central and number 19 at Churchgate. The 19-compartment train will halt at Borivli, Surat and Vadodara.
