Jaybala Ashar felicitated

MUMBAI, December 21: The M D Mahila College of Arts and Commerce and T S Bafna Jr College of Arts and Commerce, Malad W felicitated Jaybala Ashar at the college8217;s annual day function today. Through the college fair Swayamsiddha8217;98, organised with Akshara, a women8217;s resource centre, the institution hopes to involve students in thinking about women8217;s issues, hopes, dreams and their rights through the medium of popular games.For instance, the popular game of hoola hoops thrown over small gift articles has been used to start a discussion on love and marriage. Gendered division of work in society is shown in the One Minute Game which has women and men oriented tasks for the participants. The fair is open only for women students and invitees.

Stir by passport employees

The Mumbai unit of the All India Passports Employees8217; Association have threatened a token strike on December 22 to press for their demands. The association is demanding speedier promotions,augmentation of staff and regularisation of casual employees who have been with the organisation for more than 10 years.

Junior college teachers8217; morcha

The Mumbai Junior College Teachers8217; Union MJCTU will stage a morcha on Tuesday from Bandra east station to the collector8217;s office to highlight the union8217;s demands for revised pay scales. The union has urged teachers not to accept any kind of board work including examinership and moderatorship as the strike entered day 12 on Monday. Meanwhile, state education minister Sudhir Joshi has called union leaders for a discussion tomorrow at Nagpur.

The Brief8216;s ad award

The advertising magazine The Brief has announced an award for an advertisement press, radio, TV, a poster or a mailing on behalf of The Bhopal Medical Appeal to raise money for the Sadbhavana Clinic. The ad should have been run before March 31. Call Arun D8217;Souza on 8504895.
