CR announces new time-table
MUMBAI, August 6: Addition of three 12-car rakes to the existing fleet of nine will be the main feature of the new suburban time-table of the Central Railway to be introduced on August 15. Though seven of the new rakes will run between Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and stations beyond Kalyan, two rakes will run between Thane and Kalyan, one from Dadar to Kalyan and another from CST to Thane. Four additional slow trains will be introduced between Dadar and Thane, Kalyan and Dombivili.

The Mumbai CST-Thane slow local which leaves CST by 9 pm has been extended to Ambernath and will reach its destination by 10.48 pm. Meanwhile, a new local has been introduced between Ambernath and Kurla which will leave Ambernath at 11.03 pm and reach Kurla by 12.18 am. On the harbour line five new locals have been introduced as per the time-table. Of these, three trains will run between CST and Bandra, while CST-Andheri and CST-Vashi routes have been given one new local each. Fire at CM8217;sbungalow n A minor fire broke out at Varsha8217;, the official residence of Chief Minister Manohar Joshi, as one of the three diesel generators inside the compound of the bungalow burst around 1.53 pm at Walkeshwar today. One of the three generators burst, causing the fire which spread to the rest two. Four fire engines and two tankers rushed to the spot. The fire was extinguished by 2.30 pm.

Crossword book award for fiction
The Crossword bookstore has launched a Crossword Book Award8217; for Indian Fiction writing in English worth Rs two lakh. Details will be available at Crossword cafe on the first floor of Mahalaxmi Chambers, 22, Bhulabhai Desai Road, at 4 pm on August 7. The award will be declared on November 14 this year.

Free shooting in 2 union territories
Shooting in the union territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli has now been made free of cost, informed the Director of Tourism of the area. However, film producers will have to acknowledge the assistance of the tourism department inthe film credits and titles.

Social workers tie rakhis
Social workers from the Oswal Mitra Mandal, including Kamala Jain, Ravindra Sethia and Chandra Kothari, visited general wards of the G T and St George hospitals and tied rakhis to over 700 patients suffering from chronic aliments. After that, the team, led by Jain, visited the L T Marg police station and tied rakhis to the police personnel.

Rly concession for senior citizens
The Indian railways announced concession of 30 per cent for senior citizens in all types of trains in all classes, including Rajdhani and Shatabdi with no restriction on distance. At present, the railways gives a concession of 25 per cent to senior citizens only in second class sleeper.

Teachers cancel Aug 11 strike
The Maharashtra State Secondary Teachers8217; Organisation has cancelled its one day strike scheduled on August 11. The strike was organised to protest the state government8217;s apathy towards implementation of the Fifth Pay commissionrecommendations. A release stated that the organisation was satisfied with the assurance given by Chief Minister Manohar Joshi and Finance Minister Mahadeo Shivankar that the recommendations will be implemented before August 31.
