
Adulteration of milk, 11 arrested
MUMBAI, July 17: The Bhayander police arrested 11 persons allegedly involved in adulteration of milk in Harischandra Nagar slums, Navghar road, Bhayander E late Thursday night. The police seized 40 litres of raw milk worth Rs 3,327 along with plastic bags used to fill in the adulterated milk after mixing with water.
Convict tries to escape in Thane
A convict made an unsuccessful attempt to escape from the police custody in Thane recently.
Hanif Ahmad Samat Khan 32 was lodged at the Thane district central jail. After he complained of illness he was admitted to the Thane district civil hospital for treatment on July 14, 1998. Next day when he was being taken from the X-ray department to the police van, he pushed the accompanying constables and ran out. However, within hours he was traced to a nearby godown.
Drive against ticketless travel
The BEST undertaking, in its drive against ticketless travellers during April and May, recovered Rs2,74,947 from 21,677 commuters and Rs 2,08,755 from 16,641 commuters respectively. Authorities have warned that ticketless travellers who refuse to pay fines can be put into one month police custody or pay Rs 200 as fine or both.
Free Tamil, Marathi classes
The Chembur Tamil Sangam will hold free Marathi and tamil classes from August 9 on all Sundays between 9.30 am and 11.30 am. The classes will be held at General Education Academy School, Chembur.
