
HC stays order on video conferencing
The Bombay High Court today stayed the order of a lower court which had allowed for the first time in the country8217;s judicial history video conferencing for recording evidence of a key medical expert who was based in the US and unable to come here for deposition due to old age. Justice S S Parkar stayed the order of Metropolitan Magistrate M R Puranik, who on August 16, allowed the facility in a case of medical negligence filed last year by the State of Maharashtra against Dr P B Desai and his assistant, Dr A K Mukherjee, of Bombay Hospital. The high court stayed the order on an appeal filed by Dr Desai, who argued that as per the CrPC, a witness was required to be present in court in person to tender evidence.
Gastro hits 50 nurses
Fifty student nurses of the Harkisandas Hospital have been affected by gastroenteritis. Six of them with a more acute case of gastroenteritis than the others have been admitted to the hospital while the rest have beendischarged, Dr Ganesh Mehta of Harkishandas Hospital said. Doctors said the hospital has not been getting proper supply of municipal water for many days, and they have had to get tanker water. 8220;The tanker water must have caused the infection,8221; he said.
Cop kills self at Tardeo
A 26-year-old police officer, Satish Rajmane, committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest at Tardeo this afternoon. At 1.30 pm, sub-inspector Rajmane shot himself at his residence at the police quarters attached to Tardeo police station. He was rushed to Nair Hospital but was declared dead before admission.Rajmane went to Tardeo police station some time before the incident and took possession of a Titan Tiger service revolver having six live rounds. He told the duty officer he needed the weapon as he was going out on patrolling. In his suicide note, he said he was killing himself because of his estranged relations with his wife, who is a sub-inspector.
