Credentials: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is 57 years’ old. Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, and now a CM-contender, Dinsha Patel is 70 years of age.

Record: It is hard to tell now, but this is only the second election of Modi’s political career. Patel is a veteran, and this will be his 12th turn at the hustings.

Family: Patel mentions wife Kundanben. The column for spouse in Modi’s nomination papers is blank, though it has often been reported that he has an estranged wife, Jashodaben, who works as a teacher in a remote village. The Chief Minister has also left the column for successor or inheritor of property as blank.

Against a balance of Rs 21.48 lakh in the bank account of Patel, Modi has a balance of Rs 55,651 in his savings account in the State Bank of India’s Sachivalaya branch in Gandhinagar.

Investments: The Congress candidate, along with his wife, has invested around Rs 89.47 lakh in life insurance, postal saving schemes and bonds of banks and private companies. Against this, Modi has an investment of Rs 3.39 lakh by way of national saving certificates.
