A chargesheet has been filed against a key member of the gang operated by Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu, Delhi Police’s Crime Branch said on Friday. The accused, Manoj Yadav alias Kaira, a close aide of fugitive gangster Sangwan, was arrested on October 7 in a case registered under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and is currently in judicial custody, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Harsh Indora stated.
According to police, the Anti-Gang Squad (AGS) of the Crime Branch, operating under the supervision of Additional CP Mangesh Kashyap, has been conducting an intensified crackdown on gangsters and organised crime in the Capital. “While studying the modus operandi of the syndicate, identification of shooters, facilitator and financier, it was learnt that Manoj Yadav alias Kaira was a key member who used to supply valuable information of potential targets—businessmen—as well as was a key facilitator to provide arms to the shooters,” an officer said.
Investigation revealed that the accused was initially a bootlegger operating in West Delhi’s Najafgarh area. “Subsequently, to deter his competitors and gain supremacy in the area, he joined the Kapil Sangwan gang. He has seven cases filed against him, including murder and bootlegging,” DCP Indora stated.
The crime syndicate’s record shows its rise from revenge killings and armed robberies (2015-2016) to organised extortion, targeted shootings, and contract killings (2021-2024), operating through a well-structured network with nationwide reach.
Manoj was found involved in three cases linked to the syndicate: providing information about a plot dispute in Gurgaon, delivering weapons to shooters who murdered a rival gang sympathiser in West Delhi’s Paschim Vihar, and supplying information about a businessman for extortion in Najafgarh.
Officers said the chargesheet has been filed following the investigation, adding that further investigation is ongoing to apprehend other syndicate members.
