RAJKOT, March 6: A 37-year-old man buried himself alive in a concrete pit which his followers had built in a village in Amreli district. Valji Domaria alias Valji Bhagat 8220;took samadhi8221; at Deri Piplaiya village on Tuesday. Visitors are now flocking to see the concrete structure, easily visible because of the 20-metre dhwaja flag hoisted near it, built to fulfill his last wish that the spot where he was buried be marked.

According to delayed reports, Bhagat came from Dhargani village and was a diamond-cutter. He had been living in Deri Piplaiya for the last 10 years by which time, he had a large number of followers in neighbouring villages, Ahmedabad and Surat.

Bhagat reportedly had no plans to take amadhi and had only announced that he planned to hold a religious ceremony in the village later this month for which he had sent pamphlets to his followers. He reportedly changed his mind later and informed his wife Vimuben and sons Prakash and Alpesh of his decision to take samadhi.

He selected asite near a dargah on the outskirts of two villages and his disciples started digging there three days ago. Curious villagers were told that a yagna had been planned. On Tuesday, Bhagat came to the spot, blessed his followers and entered the pit.

This is not the first incident of its kind. Last year, the police prevented an old man from taking samadhi in a village in Jamnagar district.
