A man who murdered his two- and- a- half- year- old nephew in far away Tamil Nadu was arrested here in Mumbai. The officers of LT Marg police station made the arrest on Diwali. The accused Jugnu Jain 33 alias Chandrakant was held from Kalbadevi road near a clothes8217; shop called after the police received a tip off that a criminal from Chennai was loitering in the area. He confessed to the crime upon interrogation. He has been sent to police custody till Friday and was taken back to Chennai by a police team.

The Tamil Nadu police had been trying desperately to arrest Jugnu but this was difficult as he kept changing his location first going to Kolkata and then to Gaya and Nashik before finally landing in Mumbai. The Tamil Nadu police had even put a reward on. Twenty days back a team from the Chennai police had come in search of the man to Byculla.

Jugnu8217;s motive seems to have been vindictive, as he wanted to settle some scores with his family. Jugnu lived in Chennai and his brother Anand Jain was the owner of a steel company. Jugnu on was unemployed, and used to take money from his sister-in-law Shaila.

On September 25 when his brother was out of town, Shaila refused to lend him any money. He behaved normally and was playing with his nephew Monik. After being denied money by Shaila he told her that he wanted to take Monik for a walk. Shaila not suspecting anything allowed him to do so.

After Jugnu didn8217;t return for a while Shaila called him several times and Jugnu told her that they be returning in half an hour. Jugnu then called Monik8217;s grandmother and told her that he would take Monik to Delhi and kill him.

The family immediately lodged a complaint in Chennai at the Elephant gate police station. A day later they found Monik8217;s bludgeoned body lying on the railway tracks at Tirumale station near Chennai.
