According to Sacnilk, Sivakarthikeyan-starrer Parasakthi has earned around Rs 5.71 crore in India till 9pm. The film also saw an overall 57.37% in Tamil language on Saturday, with over 64% occupancy seen in evening shows.
Parasakthi Box Office Collection Day 6: The film is yet to cross Rs 40 crore.Parasakthi Movie Review, Rating and Release Live Updates: Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi is all set to hit screens on January 10, after facing multiple hurdles, including delays in certification. The period political drama, also starring Ravi Mohan, Sreeleela and Atharvaa, received its censor clearance just a day prior, with the CBFC granting it a U/A certificate.
Directed by Sudha Kongara, Parasakthi is set in the 1960s. The project was initially conceived with Suriya in the lead role but was shelved for undisclosed reasons. In 2024, Sudha revived the script, this time casting Sivakarthikeyan, with the film officially announced in December that year.
With Jana Nayagan now postponed, Parasakthi has emerged as the biggest Pongal release, carrying a substantial budget of approximately Rs 142 crore. The uncertainty surrounding its release date had also stalled advance bookings. However, following the censor clearance, BookMyShow opened advance ticket sales post 3 pm on Friday.
The delay of Jana Nayagan has worked in Parasakthi’s favour in terms of screen allocation. The Sivakarthikeyan-starrer has secured a massive number of shows, with over 600 screenings in Chennai alone. The first show begins as early as 9 am. Ticket prices in Chennai range from Rs 150 to Rs 300, while in other cities they go up to Rs 500.
In terms of box office milestones, Amaran remains the biggest opener of Sivakarthikeyan’s career with an opening-day collection of Rs 21.4 crore, followed by Madharaasi at Rs 13.2 crore and Seemaraja at Rs 11.44 crore.
During a screening of Parasakthi in Chennai, Kenishaa Francis lauded Ravi Mohan's negative role in the film. She said, “It doesn't matter if he plays a villain or hero; it is because of him that the film will do well. I cannot see anyone else in the film. I feel the movie was made for him, and he has worked really hard over the last six months.” She added, “Initially, it did look tough, but in the second half he plays a key role.” Talking about the CBFC controversy, she said, “We must respect the decision.”
As per reports, Parasakthi is likely to be available on ZEE5 within 6-8 weeks after its theatrical release.
A fan was underwhelmed by Parasakthi and wrote, “The script was flat and the direction unexciting. I couldn’t connect with the characters for the most part, and the performances felt very average. Overall, it was strictly average and mostly boring. The climax scene was unintentionally funny.”
SCREEN's Anandu Suresh gave Parasakthi 2.5 stars and shared in his review, "It is disappointing on Sudha Kongara's part that she forced a 24-year-old Sreeleela to romance a 40-year-old Sivakarthikeyan, thinking it wouldn't appear extremely odd and awkward."
X user @Sathishism shared, "Dramatic, Powerful and Engaging. The best performance of SK after Amaran. Kudos to Sudha Kongara for bringing this to the current generation. Blockbuster."
X user @sridevisreedhar gave Parasakthi 4/5 and wrote, "It is just not a movie but an emotion ❤️ It’s powerful, engaging and thought- provoking. The struggle & pain of student community against the imposition of Hindi during 60’s is well-depicted by dir @Sudha_Kongara. @Siva_Kartikeyan is perfect and his character is something he should be very, very proud of! @iam_RaviMohan is a revelation with equal screen space as the hero. @Atharvaamurali is energetic @sreeleela14 looks gorgeous, gets a cute meaty role. One of the best work from @gvprakash, be it songs or bgm 🙌 On the whole, an authentic and emotional film which will compel us to think and debate."
Trade analyst Ramesh Bala shared on X, "A movie that Showcases the Supreme sacrifice of 1960's Tamil students and people who fought to preserve their mothertongue.. Emotional.. Engaging.. Powerful.."
X user @FilmyBowlTamil writes, "Strong performances by Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa & Sreeleela hold the film together. GV PrakashKumar continues his good form with a solid background score. Technically rich film with some hard-hitting revolutionary dialogues."
X user @venkyreviews writes, "A Boring Period Drama with Honest Intentions but a Tedious, Lengthy Narration that Tests Your Patience! The film initially grabs attention with an authentic period setup. However, a slow narration and dull love track dominate most of the first half. Post-interval, the film drags endlessly, testing patience with convenient writing and stretched-out sequences. The emotions surrounding the pro-language movement feel superficial and fail to land effectively. Director Sudha Kongara picks a gutsy and honest subject but falters badly in the writing and screenplay. SK performs well. Jayam Ravi’s character lacks a proper backstory, limiting impact. Artwork deserves a special mention. The music is subpar. Overall, a boring watch."
X user @pudiharicharan writes, "Parasakthi at interval. Pretty engaging so far and a big thumbs up to the period portion recreation. Starts off with a banger of a sequence and then gradually sets the mood to the build up to the explosive interval block. Aptly captures the pain and anger of the youth against Hindi imposition. SK shines while Ravi Mohan gets his moments to score."
X user calls Parasakthi an "average" film. The tweet read, "The first half is decent, with a good mix of emotions, romance, action, and humor, supported by solid performances from Sivakarthikeyan, Atharva, and Sreeleela. The second half is completely different, dry scenes and a slow screenplay bring the film down. This is not a festival film, unlike IRUVAR (Pongal 1997). It’s surprising how Ravi Mohan accepted this role, which ends up feeling more like a dummy character. SK, as usual, delivers a strong performance, with Atharva and Sreeleela providing very good support."
"SK Leads the show. Ravi Mohan scores. Rebels Atharvaa & Sreeleela Gud Perf. GVP’s BGM & Songs Super. Abrupt Edits lead to Emotional disconnect. Interval Block & Climax gud. Powerful Content; Very Convenient writing & Mediocre execution by Sudha Kongara. AVERAGE," writes X user @Chrissuccess.
"Even with a relevant message or topic, still falls under the formulaic, predictable cringe drama. Lazy making and lackluster screenplay could easily pull down whatever was supposed to be good in the film," wrote X user @Fede15_Team.
Film producer G Dhananjheyan shared on X, "#parasakthi is authentic, powerful, impactful, well made and a superb film. Very engaging & emotionally moving film on the struggle of student community against the imposition of Hindi. So well made and presented by Director @Sudha_Kongara. She won big. Kudos Team @DawnPicturesOff for producing this epic. A must watch for GenZ youth to know how our language pride was protected by students of 1960’s 🏆"
Sivakarthikeyan further told India Today, "We received the changes at the last minute. After that, we had to make the suggested changes and upload them to QUBE. Our main focus was to release the film as we were chasing a release date. The Censor Board functions according to their own regulations, and we didn't have time to analyse whether it was an advantage or disadvantage."
"Our team's complete focus was on how we could implement the changes they suggested in a way that wouldn't affect the creativity of the film. We didn't have time to figure out why they suggested these changes," Sivakarthikeyan shared with India Today.
X user @Bunny_yt7 writes, "#parasakthi is a solid and emotionally gripping film. Siva Karthikeyan delivers one of his best performances and Leela looks graceful and convincing. The BGM hits hard and the cinematography adds great visual strength. Totally worth watching in theatres."
X user @saloon_kada says Parasakthi has a "powerful interval block."
X user @letscinema writes, "#parasakthi first half is tight, emotionally driven and steadily gains strength to deliver a punchy interval. Sivakarthikeyan is in complete control, supported by neatly placed songs and Atharvaa’s charisma."
X user @teja1409 writes, "#parasakthi terrific applause in USA for the interval block🔥🔥🔥 senna mass and goosebumps 🔥🔥🔥"
X user @venkyreviews calls the first half "dull". "Film jumps straight into the story with an authentic period setup, but drags right after the setup with a very slow narration and a filler love track that takes up most of the time and is boring. Interval is ok. 2nd half awaits," they wrote.
X user @mrpaluvets writes, "Parasakthi dreams big, but ultimately falls short. The film aspires to recreate a powerful period setting, yet never truly transports the viewer into its time. Unlike Iruvar, where the characters and atmosphere seamlessly pull us into the era, Parasakthi leaves us firmly in the present. The comedy sequences fail big time, awkwardly attempting to appeal to the period context but landing flat instead. Rather than feeling organic, the humour feels forced and out of sync with the film’s tone. The drama, too, struggles to connect emotionally. The core issue the film tries to address remains vague and underdeveloped, making it difficult to feel invested in the characters or their struggles. As a result, the emotional payoff never arrives. Overall, Parasakthi is not what was expected, ambitious in intent, but weak in execution."
Reflecting on the last-minute uncertainty caused by the certification delay, Parasakthi star Sivakarthikeyan remarked at an event in Chennai, “Maybe we should send films for certification much more in advance.”
The film’s first show is scheduled for 9 AM tomorrow, with the last show running as late as 11:59 PM at various locations across Chennai. Advance booking available on BookMyShow with over 600 shows scheduled alone in Chennai.
At a media event, Parasakthi actor Sivakarthikeyan said: "This was very unexpected. No one thought the film would get postponed. I wished for the audience to watch both the films. I don't like to compete with anyone - there is a lot of space for everyone in this film industry. If I wanted to compete, I'd have become an athlete or a boxer."
Speaking to the media in Chennai, Parasakthi star Sivakarthikeyan shared: "There have been a lot of unexpected developments and updates over the last 15 days. We were learning new things every day. Even yesterday when I was in Trichy at the promotional event for the film, we knew we still didn't have the censor certificate but we kept doing our work. Today, we know that Parasakthi will be releasing on January 10."
As BookMyShow opened advance bookings after 3 PM on Friday, the Sivakarthikeyan-starrer Parashakthi managed to sell over 19.71k tickets within the first hour. Meanwhile, several independent theatres began manual bookings at their ticket counters soon after the film cleared the censorship process on January 9—just a day before its scheduled release.
Ravi Mohan, who plays a pivotal role in the film, shared a video with his fans after the movie finally cleared the censor board. Taking to his official X handle, the actor wrote, “All my dreams and goals in this lifetime are to do cinema at my very best, no matter the role. Catch me tomorrow at theatres near you.”
The censor board ordered 25 modifications to the Sivakarthikeyan-starrer before granting it clearance. The film ultimately received a UA 16+ certificate after the makers agreed to mute several words and trim the duration of certain scenes.
After the censor board cleared Parasakthi for a January 10 release following 25 modifications, BookMyShow opened advance bookings post 3 PM on Friday, with around 600 shows listed in Chennai alone. Ticket prices in the city range between Rs 250 and Rs 300. Meanwhile, in other cities, ticket prices go up to Rs 500.

Directed by Sudha Kongara, Parasakthi, starring Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Sreeleela and Atharvaa in pivotal roles, will hit screens on January 14. The film is reportedly set against the anti-Hindi imposition protests that rocked Tamil Nadu in the 1960s.
