Senate moves to curb Trump’s ‘war power’: The US Senate advanced a ‘war powers’ resolution on Thursday aimed at restricting President Donald Trump’s ability to take further military action against Venezuela without congressional authorisation, marking a rare bipartisan rebuke of the administration’s handling of the crisis in Caracas. The procedural vote to move the resolution forward in the Republican-led Senate was 52 to 47, with five Republicans crossing party lines to join all Senate Democrats in favour of debate on the measure.

Trump Says Washington could be “running Venezuela”: In a wide-ranging interview with The New York Times, President Donald Trump said the United States expects to maintain long-term oversight of Venezuela following the military operation that resulted in the capture of President Nicolás Maduro. Earlier, Trump said Venezuela would supply between 30 million and 50 million barrels of oil to the United States and that the proceeds from the sale would be used “to benefit the people” of both countries.

Venezuela’s government on Friday acknowledged that US diplomats had travelled to the country, and announced that it will send a delegation to the US.

In a statement, the Delcy Rodríguez government said it “has decided to initiate an exploratory process of a diplomatic nature with the Government of the United States of America, aimed at the re-establishment of diplomatic missions in both countries, with the purpose of addressing the consequences derived from the aggression and kidnapping of the President of the Republic and the First Lady, as well as addressing a work agenda of mutual interest.”
