Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini Friday sent a message to police and the administration and said that “ officers failing to control crime will be held personally accountable” and may face punitive action, including “demotion”. The CM said public safety is non-negotiable and “negligence at any level would not be tolerated, especially in matters affecting the security of citizens”.
After a pre-Budget consultation meeting, Saini told the media that “law and order remains the state government’s priority”. “
“In police station areas where crime is not effectively controlled, the responsibility will be fixed on the concerned officers. If lapses are found, stringent action, including demotion of delinquent Superintendents of Police and Station House Officers will be initiated.”
The clear focus, he said, is to “ensure discipline, accountability, and results on the ground”.
Saini also said, “The Haryana Police is a capable and strong force, but capability must translate into performance.” He said “Any rise in crime or the illegal drug trade in a particular area reflects administrative failure and calls for serious introspection by officers in charge. Regular review meetings, identifying root causes and implementing concrete solutions are not optional but core responsibilities of the officers concerned.”
The CM stressed that complaints from citizens, particularly women, regarding crime or illegal activities “must be addressed immediately and effectively”. “Any delay, indifference or negligence in responding to public grievances would invite strict consequences,” he said, adding that “maintaining law and order is central to good governance, and officers who fail in this duty cannot expect leniency.”
The objective is to provide a safe environment to the people of Haryana, Saini said as he directed police and the district administration to intensify the campaign against crime and drugs. The warning of demotion, he indicated, is meant to reinforce seriousness and deter complacency within the system.
The CM also underlined that governance is not limited to economic planning alone. While discussing the upcoming State Budget, he said, “It would be dedicated to the welfare of every section of society and formulated through participatory processes involving all stakeholders.” He also said, “Haryana’s industrial growth, employment generation and overall development depend heavily on a stable law-and-order environment.”
Saini noted that “Industries are rapidly expanding in the state and that investor confidence is closely linked to safety and effective policing.” He assured that Haryana would leave no stone unturned in ensuring both economic growth and public security.
