Minnesota state’s top investigative agency, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), have said that they were blocked from probing the incident and are withdrawing from the investigation.
BCA superintendent Drew Evans, in a statement, said the investigation will now be “solely led by FBI”, and highlighted that state officials were blocked by federal authorities from accessing “case materials, scene evidence or investigative interviews necessary to complete a thorough and independent investigation”.
Evans added that since they do not have “complete access to the evidence”, the BCA will have to “reluctantly” withdraw from the ongoing probe into the killing of Renee Good. The BCA said that it was earlier called upon to aid the investigation before the federal officers “reversed course” and said the case would solely be investigated by the FBI.
Tension escalated in Minneapolis with protesters swelling on to streets demanding the departure of ICE and other federal agents from the city as US President Donald Trump’s administration continues its immigration crackdown in the country.

US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was asked why BCA was cut out of the investigation into ICE agent fatally shooting Renee Good, and Noem responded saying BCA has not been cut out instead it doesn’t have any jurisdiction in this investigation.

As political tensions and demonstrations rose in Minneapolis, school classes across the city were cancelled on Thursday as a safety measure after a US citizen was killed by a federal agent during the large-scale immigration enforcement operation. The crowd has been holding signs and chanting slogans for ICE to leave Minnesota.
In a post on X, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said, “Trump wants a show. Don’t give it to him,” as he urged protesters to remain calm. Walz said he had issued a “warning order” for possible deployment of the Minnesota national guards.
