Though a marginal player in UP, Congress too is upset over attempts of BSP leader Mayawati to take brahmins on board.

State Congress president Salman Khursheed said here today that the recent BSP Brahmin Sammelan only indicates that the party has run out of its basic philosophy. He taunted Mayawati by suggesting that she rechristen her party as Sarvjan Samaj Party.

Khursheed is livid as Mayawati8217;s moves run contrary to his plans for the Congress revival. The long-cherished Congress dream is to retrieve its brahmin-Dalit-Muslim votebank in UP. While Dalits and Muslims are firmly aligned with Mayawati and Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, brahmins are no longer camp-followers of BJP.

With Mayawati offering competition for the brahmin vote, the Congress can no longer hope for an automatic gain from any BJP loss. Khursheed candidly said: 8216;8216;We are targeting Mulayam, but our adversary is Mayawati.8217;8217;

However, the state Congress chief believes that their mutual antipathy would catch with both Mayawati and brahmins. He argued that 8216;8216;those who say brahmins are going to BSP are only fooling themselves 8211; either they don8217;t know brahmins or they don8217;t know Mayawati.8217;8217; Earlier, Khursheed addressed a special conference of Dalit leaders from UP.
