
Bhubaneswar, June 10: Dipu Das, a close associate of Dara Singh, the principal accused in the killing of Australian missionary Graham Staines and his two children at Manoharpur in January, has been arrested, director general of police Dilip Mohapatra said.
8220;We are expecting him to provide some vital clues8221;, Mohapatra said. A report from Keonjhar said that acting on a tip-off, a police party visited a place and apprehended Das who was working there as a cleaner in a truck. The name of the place had not been disclosed.
Das, on whom the CBI had declared a reward of Rs one lakh, had been brought to Keonjhar for interrogation. Police said that Das would be handed over to the CBI at Anandapur later today.
The police were yet to arrest Dara Singh who has been absconding since the crime was committed on the night of January 23. Dara, whose other name is Ravindra Pal Singh, used to stay with Das after he arrived in the Anandapur area from Uttar Pradesh some years ago, police said.
Warrants against Das hadbeen pending in connection with three other cases involving dacoity and arson committed at Satkosia, Thakurmunda and Kendumundi earlier.
