NEW DELHI, JAN 28: In the end, it was a virtual no-contest, as Sunil Kumar brushed aside Parantap Chaturvedi 7-5, 6-1 to win the Delhi-leg of the ITF junior circuit. While there was no doubt that Parantap tried, and gave it all he had, it was probably a case of too much too soon.

He broke Sunil in the very first game of the match and quickly held serve, playing some of his best tennis hitting some superb backhand crosscourt shots that barely skimmed the net and had Sunil just watching in frustration as they whizzed by. Both players were troubled by the strong winds on an otherwise sunny day. Parantap, more than once, watched a serve, which should by rights have landed well inside, spin right out of the sidelines. By the sixth game, Sunila was more confident and less casual. He broke back for 4-4 and held.

Parantap held for 5-5 in a very tight game after which Sunil just swept him aside. He won the next two games to take the set and wrapped up the second 6-1. In the much overshadowed all-Chinese girlsfinal, top seed Shuai Peng gave challenger Yan Ze Xie no chance as she won 6-1, 6-4.

Ram vs Svarc final

Chennai: Andy Ram8217;s Israel smart play, crafty approach and familiarity with conditions enabled him to get past hard-hitting and super-fit Slovakian Boris Borgula 6-3, 7-6 6 in the semifinals of the TNTA 8217;75 ITF Men8217;s Futures tennis championship at Nungambakkam Stadium on Friday. The third seed will face top seed Slovak Ladislav Svarc in the final tomorrow.

Svarc, facing a not-so-fully fit and carefree-hitting Donovan September, was surprised by the way the South African started the semifinal, hitting winners on both flanks on literally one leg, his left leg swollen from a twisted ankle on Thursday. Svarc changed his approach and become positive as September was not able to keep his level of play and lost 5-7, 1-6.

Results: Men singles semis: 1-Ladislav Svarc Svk bt 4-Donovan September SA 7-5, 6-1, 3-Andy Ram Isr bt 2-Boris Borgula Svk 6-3, 7-6 6.
