CHANDIGARH, Sept 22: The Punjab government has decided to set up Punjab Infrastructure Development Board. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the council of ministers here last evening.

According to an official spokesman, the Punjab Infrastructure Fund would also be established. The accruals to this fund would be from a cess to be levied on the sale of certain commodities. The main purpose of establishing the fund is to provide adequate financial resources for funding major infrastructure like roads and bridges.

The meeting approved in principle, a new tourism policy and decided to set up a committee comprising the Finance Minister and the Tourism Minister to go into detailed action plan for the implementation of the new tourism policy.

The council of ministers authorised the district screening committee to settle the compensation up to Rs 2 lakh in motor accident cases. The district screening committee for this purpose would have the deputy commissioner as chairman with district attorney as convener and the concerned district department head as member. In case of a claim exceeding Rs 2 lakh, the screening committee would recommend the case to the nodal committee. The nodal committee would have Secretary, Transport as nodal officer, Secretary, Finance or his representative as member, Legal Remembrance and Secretary or Director, Prosecution and Litigation as its member.

The meeting also accorded ex-post facto approval extending reservation in the promotion for Scheduled Castes beyond November 15, 1977.
