It has been over 40 days since Dhurandhar hit the big screen, yet the film’s magic remains as powerful as ever. After shattering multiple box-office records, the film has firmly established itself as Ranveer Singh’s emphatic comeback, while also reviving Akshaye Khanna’s stardom. Now, imagine Dhurandhar being made four decades ago—who would have stepped into these iconic roles?

Amitabh Bachchan as Hamza Ali Mazari

AI artist and short filmmaker Souvik recently explored this fascinating “what if” scenario on Instagram, sharing his reimagined version of Dhurandhar set in the 1980s. In his AI-generated visuals, Amitabh Bachchan takes on the role of Hamza Ali Mazari. The image features a bearded, long-haired Big B with brooding intensity—instantly reminiscent of his Deewar days. Dressed in an olive-green outfit with a cigarette in his mouth, Bachchan exudes raw power and quiet menace.

Matching his screen presence is Vinod Khanna, once considered Amitabh Bachchan’s biggest competition, who has been reimagined as Rehman Dakait—a character originally portrayed by his son, Akshaye Khanna. Vinod Khanna appears in sleek black Pathani suits paired with aviators, lending the character an effortless charisma. Parveen Babi has been envisioned as Rehman Dakait’s on-screen wife, Ulfat.

The reimagining continues with Sridevi stepping into the role of Yalina, originally played by Sara Arjun. Amrish Puri is cast as SP Aslam, Jackie Shroff as Major Iqbal, Rishi Kapoor as Uzair, and Paresh Rawal as Ajay Sanyal—making the alternate casting a nostalgic dream lineup for Hindi cinema lovers.

Released on December 5, Dhurandhar opened on a modest note but gained unstoppable momentum over the weekend. The film went on to become the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025 and has now officially entered the top five highest-grossing Indian films of all time, joining Dangal, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, and Pushpa 2: The Rule. Surpassing RRR’s lifetime collection, Dhurandhar currently stands as the fourth highest-grossing Indian film ever, with worldwide earnings crossing Rs 1,300 crore.
