Jaisimha hospitalised

HYDERABAD: Former Test cricketer and national selector M L Jaisimha, has been hospitalised after he complained of weakness and uneasiness. Hia condition was later declared stable.

The former cricketer had been hospitalised earlier in January 1994 following a mild stroke.

NEW DELHI: Amateur Athletic Federation of India AAFI has decided to hold four international athletic meets in the country this July.

Nagarcoil will host the first meet on July 3, Thiruvananthapuram on July 6, followed by Bangalore July 12 and Chennai.

Ukraine, Kenya, Iran, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Maritus and Malaysia have confirmed their participation. Indians who win medals at the meet will also be given cash prizes with the gold medallist getting Rs 10,000.

Sporting in semis

CALCUTTA: A solitary late second-half goal by defender Aslam Parvej guided Mohammedan Sporting into the semi final of the McDowell Cup Football Tournament defeating Tata Football Academy TFA 1-0 in their last league match from Group A at Salt Lake Stadium on Monday.

Inspite of having an edge all through and dominating the midfield, TFA had to bow out from the tournament for poor finishing.

Mohun Bagan with six points followed by Sporting have already qualified for the semis.

The final Group B leaguematch between Tollygunge Agragami and Eastern Railway on Tuesday will decide the Group B runner-up. East Bengal is the other Group B team to qualify for semis.
