Wanted a male child: Woman arrested after smothering daughter to death in Navi Mumbai
An officer said that the woman, a BSc graduate, and a Kalamboli resident, claimed her daughter had passed away due to ill health on Tuesday.

(File photo) The Navi Mumbai police Saturday arrested a 30-year-old woman from Kalamboli for allegedly smothering her six-year-old daughter to death and trying to pass it off as natural death. The woman who has been taking treatment for depression since 2024 told the police that she had wanted a male child and was also upset with her daughter for not speaking properly in Marathi.
An officer said that the woman, a BSc graduate, and a Kalamboli resident, claimed her daughter had passed away due to ill health on Tuesday. Accordingly, the Kalamboli police took an accidental death report in the matter. The post mortem report, however, pointed towards her being smothered to death.
