GUWAHATI, May 2: An Army Major and seven National Democratic Front of Bodoland NDFB ultras were on Sunday killed in an hour-long encounter in Sonitpur district of Assam, official sources said.
The encounter took place when troops of 11th Sikh regiment under 21st Mountain Division operating in Sonitpur district raided a NDFB hideout in the jungles of Bishwanath Chariali Reserve Forest bordering Arunachal Pradesh.
An Army Major Raman Dada, who was leading the troops, was also killed. A junior commissioned officer was also seriously injured in the shootout.
