NEW DELHI, February 12: Delhi University entered the final of the All India inter-varsity squash rackets (men) championships after a lapse of eight years when they beat Mumbai University 3-2 in a marathon tussle that lasted over four hours. In the final on Saturday, DU will play Devi Ahilya (Indore) who beat Punjab University 3-2 National junior champion Ritwik Bhattacharya, Tarun Gill and Sameer Bakshi won their matches for DU while Gaurav Tomar and Anant Atal lost their encounters.

Incidentally, both semi-finals lasted almost four hours each and were close encounters. Delhi had last won the title way back in 1991.

The Devi Ahilya-Punjab match was engrossing with the fortune’s pendulum swining from one side to the other. In the deciding match, however, Ambrish defeated Sudhakaran Singh in straight games to clinch the issue.
