FEBRUARY 22: This has obviously happened to you and don’t try to deny it… When you start studying some drab and uninteresting topic, your mind invariably tends to drift into other channels which seem interesting to either your loins or your head, though in most cases, it is the loins that charge your thoughts. However, due to an inexplicable trait in nature, you are rudely jolted back into the real world which is anything but interesting.
You excited? Just imagine the possibilities. You could be making wild `n’ passionate love to Hrithik Roshan or Salma Hayek, (or even the starlet we’ve featured in the last page – Simone Singh). In a normal dream, you’d do things as your dim-witted brain told you to and perhaps sub-consciouly, you could suffer the consequences.
But lucid dreaming allows you freedom of expression (talk of rights) in any way (pun purely coincidental) and is actually a good way to not only vent your frustrations but also to allow you to solve problems in real life. Lucid dreaming is quite beneficial and requires no effort, which is a good thing if you’re a lazy old fart sitting on your bottom in that old, stinking, pair of shorts.
When you’re asleep, your senses have tuned off but not your mind. In fact, your mind is supercharged. Even the subconscious mind kicks itself into high gear, like an animal running towards its female in the mating season. In this state, the mind generates more thoughts and ideas, it scrutinizes every facet and finally creates experiences out of it. All of this while you’re in the cozy grasp of the Zzz-man.
In lucid dreaming, you become aware of what’s happening and make it up the way you want it to happen. When you stay in this state for sometime, you reach a new level of consciousness (call it a high, if you will) which persists, making you stay lucid longer, thereby making you much more creative. This, if done properly, saves a lotta time, energy and effort in real life and this has been scientifically proven.
Fortunately, everyone can dream lucidly, some better than others, depending on the intelligence quotient of their brains. Use the guidelines given below and then, mes ami(e)s, there’s nothing to stop you from doing absolutely anything you want to, be it about sex or studies or anything that your tube-light mind wants to. And remember it’s all in the mind.
LINES THAT GUIDE :
1) Get enough sleep or you won’t dream lucidly
2) Think back to see what you’ve dreamt about
3) Relax. Do relaxation exercises if you must. (Become a yogi, if you must)
4) Decide what you want to dream about and keep telling yourself that you’ll dream about it
5) Be sure that when you dream, you’re aware of it and control it
6) Take deep breaths and slowly count backwards
7) Imagine yourself detached from your body
8) Don’t consciously try to control your thoughts, just let your mind go where nothing may have gone before
9) There is a strange feeling of joyfulness as you enter a lucid dream. Be careful not to concentrate on this feeling or you might just break the spell and wake up
10) There are different levels of consciousness. The higher you go, the more lucid you get. Don’t worry, you’ll gain control of your mind. Eventually…
