Doctors protest against police

January 28: Private medical practitioners abstained from work and took out a protest march in Faridabad against the failure of the police in tracing the doctor and owner of a slimming centre five days after he went missing. Doctors submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner to this effect.On Saturday, Dr Ravindra Dhingra went missing after he left the Dhingra Slimming Centre for his Sector 14 residence at 9 p.m. in his Maruti Zen. He had dropped Sunita, a nurse working in the clinic, on the way home. Till Wednesday evening there was no clue of either the doctor or his vehicle. Ruling out the possibility of abduction, his family members said they had not received any call for ransom. However, a case for abduction was registered in the NIT Police Station after his family disclosed that soon after he went missing someone else had responded on his mobile phone. The call was traced to the Ballabhgarh area.

Computerised trunk booking inaugurated

N.K. Dua,chief general manager, MTNL, inaugurated the computerised digital trunk manual exchange CDTMX in the Capital on Wednesday. Besides automatic billing of trunk calls, the new exchange will help in reducing booking and connecting time. Moreover, it will eliminate human error. The CDTMX will be operated from Karol Bagh, Kidwai Bhawan, Pankha Road and Laxmi Nagar. Costing Rs 12 crore, the project has been financed partially by the Asian Development Bank. The equipment has been provided by Lucent Technologies.

Former J-K CM condoles deaths

Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and president of the All Jamp;K Awami National Conference, G.M. Shah has expressed his condolences to the bereaved families of the massacred Kashmiri Pandits. He said that mere compensation will not heal the wounds of the Kashmiris. He asked the government to take punitive steps and provide fool-proof security arrangements for the minorities.

Cultural show by disabled children

Children from the two NDMC 8212; runschools for special children performed a cultural show here on Wednesday to commemorate 50 years of Independence. Children from Aanchal8217;, a school for the mentally retarded and Pawan8217;, a school for children with impaired hearing staged Gandhi8217;s Namak Satyagraha8217;.

Admiring their brilliant performance, Imtiaz Khan, NDMC chairman, said that schools would be given a special thrust. He also sanctioned a computer with special software for the children to help them in their development.
