NEW DELHI, JULY 24: Altogether 31 companies and producers have been contracted for news and current affairs programmes on Doordarshan, Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley informed the Rajya Sabha on Monday. Jaitley said the selection was made after a preview committee cleared the names of the companies, producers or individual anchors for DD-I, DD-II, DD-International and DD news channels.

QUANTITATIVE RESTRICTIONS: An inter-ministerial group will be constituted to study the impact of removal of Quantitative Restrictions QRs, Commerce Minister Murasoli Maran has said. He said a group of ministers has been entrusted with the task of suggesting ways and means for empowering the Small Scale Industries sector and its recommendations were awaited.

CENTRAL RESOURCE CENTRE: The government was considering a proposal to set up a Central Resource Centre to quot;aid and advisequot; state governments, municipal corporations and other agencies on matters pertaining to horticulture. Minister for Urban Development Jagmohan said the ministry has initiated special measures to green urban India and it was in pursuance of this initiative that an All India Conference of Horticulture was convened in June this year.

FILM FESTIVALS: The dates of the International Film Festival of India have been changed from January to October from next year as the dates coincided with Christmas and New Year and participating film personalities expressed difficulty, the Upper House of Parliament was told. Though some organisations in the film industry had protested earlier, they now endorsed the government decision, Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley has said.
